全ての教育委員会の出願において必要
カナダの高校へ出願する際に提出する書類の1つに、留学生による英作文があります。多くの教育委員会が、「留学生がカナダ留学へ至った経緯や想い」を、本人からの作文という形で確認しています。また英語力の確認にもなるので、必ず本人が書くようにしてください。
英作文のテーマと長さ
テーマは、多くの教育委員会で以下のものになります。
- 「Why I want to study in Canada」（なぜ私はカナダで学びたいのか？ カナダ高校留学がしたい理由）
- Introduction Letter / 自己紹介レター
作文の長さは、1ページに収まるように書いてください。手書き、パソコンでの作成どちらでも構いません。また決まった書式などもありません。
英作文のサンプル
こちらのサンプルは分量の目安になるかと思いご紹介します。こちらはある留学生の方が実際に書いたもので、部分的に学校や都市の名前は変えてあります。大切なのは、これはテストではありません。綺麗な文章を書こうと硬くなりすぎないでください。英語が間違っていても構いません。自分の想いをそのまま書いてください。英作文が高校への受入審査を左右するあるわけではありません。誰かに助けてもらって上手に書いても、入学後に困りますので、頑張ってご自分で書いてください。
To whom it may concern,
Hello my name is _______________ . I want to study at your high school. I have three reasons.
First, the school has good programs, for example, the Japanese class. I think that students in that class are interested in Japan, so I can study not only English, but also give them some Japanese knowledge. And I want to communicate with people other countries. That the school has a lot of ESL programs, support for international students is thick, So, I would like to learn firmly here.
Second, your city is a safe place and there are lots of beautiful nature. I think that I can live life in a rich environment with a lot of nature.
Third, in your city, there are only a few Japanese students. I think that I can master English early in English environment. I like to draw picture and to read manga. I would like to talk with host family in various ways. I like noodles and sweets. I also want to cook with host family together.
I want to learn a lot of things in Canada and get some new idea and widen my view through studying abroad. I study hard and master English early. I want to be a person who can help as a person on the experience of studying abroad in the future.
